The Guru- Jyothi Lakkaraju

Jyothi Lakkaraju obtained her initial training in Kuchipudi from the renowed Guru Sri Chinta Radha Krishna Murthy and his son Sri Chinta Adinarayana Sarma. Later, she received advanced training in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam from Dr. Uma Rama Rao, director of Lasya Priya, a school dedicated to Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam.

Besides being acknowledged as a top-level artiste at the national level, Jyothi Lakkaraju is also a National Government Scholarship holder in both Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. Jyothi has given over three hundred performances all over India, South-east Asia and United States. She has recieved numerous awards, prizes and titles such as such as 'Singara Mani' and 'Nrithya Bharathi' in recognition of her excellence. She started her dance carrier in the Bay Area with Abhinaya Dance Company and later established her own school, 'Natyalaya' . Jyothi has given many performances to aid various humanitarian causes here in the Bay Area.

Apart from performing, she is an accomplished teacher of this art for the last 14 years in the Bay Area. Seven of her students have performed their solo debut performances "Rangapuja" in the last 5 years. She has choreographed for a number of occassions to much acclaim and of special note are the ballets Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum, Rukminikalyanam, Ritusambhavam, Sugunamala, Mahishasuramardhini, and Prasanna Astalakshmi, and Usha Parinayam.
